Philip S. Sousa is an associate in the Trusts & Estates Group and is certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization as a specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law. Philip’s practice covers estate planning, including estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax planning, trust and estate administration, and conservatorships and guardianships.
Philip’s estate planning practice focuses on basic estate planning documents, consisting of revocable trusts, wills, general durable powers of attorney and advanced health care directives, as well as more sophisticated estate planning techniques, including, special needs trusts, shelter trusts, marital trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, generation-skipping trusts, and charitable trusts. Philip’s trust and estate administration practice focuses on counseling trustees, executors and administrators through either the informal trust administration or formal probate process in order to assist them in accomplishing their duties, discharging their fiduciary liability, and completing the administration in the most efficient and effective manner. Philip also assists clients in establishing conservatorships for individuals who have lost capacity or have a developmental disability and guardianships for minor children.

Philip is a member of the State Bar of California’s Trust and Estate section, a member of the Jerry A. Kasner Estate Planning Symposium’s Planning Committee and a past Co-Chair of the Silicon Valley Bar Association’s New Attorneys Round Table. In his free time, Philip enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, playing soccer, reading, hiking, and watching sports.
