Jean M. Kohler is a partner in the Trusts & Estates Group and is certified by the State Board of Legal Specialization as a specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law.
Jean began her practice in the Trusts & Estates Department at Foley & Lardner in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jean relocated to the Bay Area in 2003 where she continues her estate planning practice, focusing on the preparation of wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and incapacity planning documents such as durable powers of attorney and advance health care directives. Jean’s practice also includes the administration of decedents’ estates (including both trust and probate estates) and conservatorship and guardianship matters.
Jean is an active member of the Silicon Valley Bar Association and San Mateo County Bar Association and previously served on the board of Palo Alto Community Child Care, an organization that partners with parents and regional agencies to provide quality, professional and accessible childhood care and education in the Palo Alto community. Jean recently finished serving a four-year term as a commissioner on the Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Advisory Commission for the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization.
Jean speaks frequently on estate and incapacity planning and on estate planning and family law crossover issues.
Jean was named a Northern California Rising Star from 2009 through 2016 and as a California Super Lawyer in 2017, 2018 and 2019 by Super Lawyers Magazine. Jean is licensed to practice law in California and Wisconsin.
